Meet and ride with Craig McMorris

Craig Mcmorris

Carve some turns with Canadian National Snowboard Team member, Craig McMorris during Snow Fever at Kinosoo Ridge, Feb. 16.

You’ve heard of the brothers from flatland Saskatchewan – Craig and Mark McMorris? Being born and raised in Regina might have been the catalyst that got these two boys hungry for steep terrain. Both brothers are members of the Canadian national snowboard team. While the younger bro, Mark likes the big air events, Craig sticks to slopestyle. Of late, Craig has taken on the role of commentator for CBC Sports and is a life-skill mentor when not competing on the world slopestyle stage.

Kinosoo is a small resort offering the youth of the community a chance to test their skills on the slopes. The McMorris boys started their careers under the same conditions and found ways to be successful,” says Jurgen Grau, resort manager. “Anyone who comes to hear Craig talk will be inspired to reach for the stars.”

So, mentor and killer snowboarder, Craig will be at Snow Fever to give a talk, meet and greet and best of all – go for rip with anyone who signs up for the special event. Definitely call 780-594-5564 to register for this event.

Family entertainment goes big this year.

The little ones will enjoy ice Xs and Os, face painting, live music, a production of "Moana" and much more during Snow Fever, Feb. 16.

“Last year, the feedback said, 'Bring more entertainment for the kids.' So, we listened,” says Grau.

Inside the day lodge, the kids can participate in an immersive experience. Moana will be performed by Visionary Entertainment Group, but before it all, kids are invited to get their faces painted, then meet the troupe after the show. That will be from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Call 780-594-5564 to register.

Over at the tube park, Jeremy Fisher will be delighting the crowds at the campfire from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm with his upbeat catchy tunes. Bring the kids and be prepared to jump and jive. His silly lyrics like “I’d rather be a donut than a hole,” will be sung in the backseat for weeks. This might get crowded so call 780-594-5564 to reserve your spot.

Music next to the Ice Bar

Kinosoo

Plan for some apres breaks with afternoon tunes and a table at the ice bar during Kinosoo Ridge's Snow Fever, Feb. 16.

Did someone say, “Schnapps on ice?” Once again Snow Fever will have the ice bar near the music venue so you can relax and listen to some excellent Canadian music.

First up is DJ Shub. His EP entitled, PowWowStep featuring a mesh of traditional pow and club music, was nominated for best Indigenous Music Award in 2018. Shub won the Canadian Red Bull Thre3style DJ competition twice. His style of DJ’ing gets everyone up on their feet. A show not to miss from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm.

“I just listened to the new release from Moontricks and think this duo from rural B.C. is on the verge of going really big. Seeing them at Snow Fever might be your best bet,” says Grau. Moontricks blends mountain folk, blues, bluegrass and electric funk to create a show everyone will love. They own the stage from 3:45 pm – 5:00 pm.

Make tracks

You’ve seen those fat tire bikes and now’s your chance to go for a rip on rough terrain and on snow. Reps from Norco Bicycles will be bringing a fleet of those super knobby tires to let you explore. Give it a try, the reps are at the resort all day.

Put on your dancing shoes

As the sun sets, head back to Cold Lake for a huge after dark party. Four bands, four different genres all on one stage at the Grande Parlour. DJ Shub, The Moontricks and The Unheard Ofs (all the way from Australia via Kinosoo Ridge), along with Jeremy Fisher (singing his tunes for grownups) will all be there. The doors open at 7:00 pm, show starts at 8:00 pm.
