Get set for spring skiing with #SkiNorthAB
Looking for the extra motivation you need to make the most of winter heading into the spring ski season in Alberta? Take the #SkiNorthAB pledge - it worked for Lauren.
Growing up in Calgary, Lauren Erdely got into winter adventure early. She remembers downhill skiing in the central Canadian Rockies as a kid. When she relocated to Grande Prairie as an adult, where she works as a lands officer for Alberta Environment and Parks, she didn’t miss a beat, exploring northern ski hills like Nitehawk Year Round Adventure Park and Marmot Basin.
But with tons of space to explore up north, Erdely quickly got into some new winter activities as well. “I often visit the Wapiti Nordic Centre or Evergreen Park for a good snowshoe,” says Erdely, 26. “And I just recently learned how to cross country ski and am hoping to get myself some classic cross country ski gear so I can hit the trails with friends.”
Another favourite local pastime is heading to Nitehawk on a Friday night, she says: "Friday night skiing with friends and snow tubing in the Aquaterra Tube Zone is a blast!"

With all this awesome activity in her arsenal, she took the SkiNorthAB pledge to give her some additional motivation to get out and explore her own backyard - and it worked!
“I've made a point to honour my pledge and have been out for several snowshoe trips with my partner, Chase,” she reported. “With good weather on the horizon, I plan to get out even more to enjoy all the beautiful spaces Northern Alberta has to offer.”
Erdely shared her story with us after winning our first prize giveaway of the season, a $1000 gift certificate to Fountain Tire. Needless to say we were pretty stoked to be able to help her continue on her adventures.
At SnowSeekers, our aim with the #SkiNorthAB pledge from the start was to encourage and inspire our audience to get outside and get epic this winter in northern Alberta. But as always, we’re learning. And one of the first things we learned (yet again) from launching the pledge is that inspiring each other to get out and adventure is a two-way street.
Through the first half of the winter 2021-22 season our SnowSeekers production team has been out finding some new Northern Alberta experiences to share with you, and we’re excited to be sharing those with you now. But we are just as excited - no scratch that - even more excited to hear about your adventures.
So what are you doing this winter to get out and explore? Spring may be on the way, but there's still plenty of time left to make the most of the snow! We want to hear about your adventures and snowy stories. Tag #SkiNorthAB and @ us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to share.
