CANMORE WEATHER

Only 45 minutes west of Calgary, Canmore is the perfect basecamp to tackle the Canadian Rockies.  With its own mountain town charm, Canmore is home to great dining and many winter adventures.  Places such as Kananaskis Provincial Park for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and ice climbing, plus the ski slopes of the Bow Valley (Sunshine, Norquay and Lake Louise) will leave any snow-seeker satisfied. Canmore has been on the world stage many times with its internationally acclaimed Nordic ski centre, located just minutes from the town centre. Nakiska Mountain Resort is what is known as Calgary's closest Rocky Mountain ski resort. It's located about 45 minutes west of the city and is set within Kananaskis Provincial Park. Home to four lifts and lots of terrain that is perfect for beginners or intermediate skiers, Nakiska makes for a great stop for anyone looking to get conditioned before they tackle the steeper terrain of the mountain resorts further down the Trans-Canada highway.

Getting There

Nakiska is really not that far from Calgary, Canmore or Banff.

Driving

From Calgary, join all the other snow hounds as they bolt from the city heading west on highway 1. You'll take the turnoff for highway 40 into Kananaskis Country. It's only 83 km from the west side of the city to the parking lot.

From the west, like Canmore or Banff, you'll be taking highway 1 going east towards Calgary. Take that turn off south into Kananaskis country on highway 40. From Canmore it's 56 km and Banff 81 km.
