Follow your path to summits as SilverStar nordic, Whistler open

With ten ski areas in some stage of opening across Western Canada as of this past weekend, the season has begun in earnest. Whistler Blackcomb, Canyon Ski Resort and WinSport all joined the list of ski areas open for the 2023-24 ski season—read on to see some of the opening weekend highlights.

But beyond the alpine, there’s more afoot (pun intended.) We’ve been highlighting SilverStar’s Ultimate Trip the past couple weeks (it is amazing) and this past weekend, the ‘Star opened its nordic trail system.

Here's a look at this beauty trail system, and a sneak preview of the alpine conditions as SilverStar preps to open December 8, 2023 (tentative) for downhill skiing and snowboarding.

SilverStar Nordic slides into gear

You likely have heard about the Grouse Grind in North Vancouver, a famous hiking trail that takes you to the summit of Grouse Mountain. Given SilverStar's nordic (cross country) skiing opened for the season this past weekend, those looking for a proper workout are invited to the SilverStar Summit!

From the village expect the climb to take anywhere from an hour to two hours depending on your shape. Really unique, given there are few places in North America, whose network of trails is as good as this.

Nordic engineering of the trail network means skiers, snowboarders and cross country skiers share the same mountain and have runs specific to each discipline. Conditions are in good shape for us skinny skiers, as you can see here in this video coming down Paradise Trail.

All uphill to the summit, with a beauty of a cruise downhill and back to the mid-mountain village.

LAST DAY TO ENTER
You’ll want to get in on SilverStar's Ultimate Trip contest—closing Nov 27.

Whistler gets down for opening day

It was a big one, as BC's biggest ski resort destination got cooking. Whistler, if you know you know, right?
