Here’s 7 western Canadian Resorts ready to rock the spring season

This is it folks. The best and the worst part of the ski season. The worst because we are already taking about spring skiing and the best…because we are talking about spring skiing! Every resort is planning something - be it spring skills camps, parties, festivals, bands on the patio or eventually the annual slush cups. But let’s not put on the swimsuits yet. There is plenty of action left in the season and some include a horse! Take a look.

Spring break is hard to pin down. Is it before Easter? After Easter? Depends on the city and school board. So, Revelstoke Mountain Resort is coming to the rescue. Three weeks of March Break Camps are offered for ages 6-13. Find out here when your kids can go to ski-school and you can ski. (Isn’t that what camps are all about?)

Take a tent, you’ll want to be first in line at Troll Resort on March 15th so you can race against the clock to make as many laps as you can in the designated time. If you complete 20 runs on the mandatory runs, you will have skied the height of Mount Everest. Prizes and coveted Troll Mount Everest T-shirts wait those you reach the summit and beyond. More details about the event and camping at “Base Camp” are here.

Dang. I thought Marmot was serving hot dogs but it’s the annual Hot Dogs and Hand Rails competition on March 21st. Show up and show off your hot doggin stylin in the Mini Rail Park to win prizes. At least the Easter Eggs are real at Marmot! Head to Marmot on April 4th and 5th and join in on the family fun. The Easter Bunny will be hiding colourful eggs all over the mountain. Find as many as you can then visit the Group Sales desk to claim prizes. The Jasper Skytram is also getting in on the action. Yeah, more sugar!

Kimberley is experiencing some serious flash backs

Aren’t you glad your dad never threw out his ridiculous neon onesie with the space-age padded shoulders and knees? On March 28th you can strut like its 1977 during the North Star Days at Kimberley Alpine Resort only minutes out of Cranbrook, B.C. Activities on slope include ski ballet, mogul competitions and, “Oh hello, is that you Glen Platt?” Get those crazy hair dos going. For the big hair competition.

More spring fun in and around Cranbrook including fat bike trails can be found here.

And now for something completely different – horses and skis

Nitehawk

If you are heading to Nitehawk in Grand Prairie on March 14th, bring your horse as well. After a day on the slopes, head over to Evergreen Park to either participate or watch the second annual Thunder in the Pines skijor competition that starts at 5 p.m. The circuit style race includes small jumps, pylons to navigate and other obstacles…for you. Not the horse. Find out more from Nitehawk's facebook page here.

For more events at Nitehawk (without your horse) check here.

Float on a frozen pond on four cushy tires

Now that we are off the slopes, why not go way off slope and ride in a boggy tundra buggie up at Fort McMurray? Spend a day skiing or snowboarding at Vista Ridge and follow it with a crazy ride on a frozen lake.

Check out our last trip to Fort McMurray here.
