First snowfalls hit Alberta, BC ski resorts

OHHHH YEAH! Helloooo snow! It's been too long, welcome back. Snow in the mountains of Western Canada gets us dreaming. Winter has been teasing us, with light dustings at Marmot, Sunshine and Whistler in the last week, but now it's starting to penetrate a little deeper. The temperatures are dropping, and soon—soon we will be skiing and riding.

This past weekend saw snow fall at Alberta and BC resorts including Big White, Castle Mountain, Lake Louise, Mount Norquay and Sunshine.

Big White, October 4

Living up to its name, with even BIGGER white, to come!

Castle Mountain Resort, Oct 5

Check that metre stick—you can just barely see the 10cm marking!

Marmot Basin, Oct 6

At -1°C on Monday morning, Marmot is starting to set up.

Mount Norquay, Oct 5

This is the image that is going to be swimming around our heads all day.

Banff Sunshine Village, Oct 5

Or is it this one?

Why are we so excited for this snow? Because soon we'll be shredding our favourite resorts in Alberta and BC, including new terrain like Richardson's Ridge opening up at Lake Louise Ski Resort.

How dreamy is this?

Looking for the details on new additions coming to Western Canada's ski scene? Check out this piece by Tyler Dixon, that will get your stoke flowing.

It's a little too early to ski the dive (lol Eric) but by Nov 7, we should see ski resorts opening up in Western Canada.

And while we all enjoy a good laugh, we also want to remind the especially ambitious uptrack folks to respect resort closures for your own safety. Pre-season, resorts are working around the clock to ready their lifts, equipment and lodges for the season. Lots of unmitigated hazards, so be sure to respect their closures. And if you're heading backcountry, be sure to heed early season risks.
