Winter events in Alberta, BC for 2022-23

Check out the events that top our list of things to do this winter around Western Canada.

November 25 - December 4: Lake Louise Audi FIS Ski World Cup, Lake Louise AB
In traditional fashion, the Lake Louise World Cup kicks off the season with the world’s best downhill skiers racing down the classic Lake Louise downhill course! Endorsed by none other than women’s legend Lindsay Vonn.

After its strong start to the season on November 4, conditions at The Lake should be ideal for some ripping and roaring, as you ski and cheer on your favourite racers. Don’t forget your cowbell!

November 24 - 26: Banff Beer Festival, Banff AB
Banff brings Alberta’s craft beer scene to the mountains. Pair your day on the hill with this hopping après experience with over 50 craft brewers sharing out samples. The Jasper event, if you’re planning ahead, is February 10 - 12. Same great festival, different location, with tons of amazing winter activities to enjoy.

December 9 - 11: The Style Experience: FIS Snowboard Big Air World Cup, Edmonton AB
Picture the worlds’ best snowboarders hurtling down a giant ramp, dropping into the bowl of Commonwealth Stadium, in downtown Edmonton, as they throw their best tricks in a Big Air comp you don’t want to miss!

December 15 - 21: Welcome to Paradise: FIS Para-Snowboard World Cup, Big White BC
Is there anything more hardcore than para snowboarding? Because we haven’t found it. Para snowboarding involves snowboarding with impaired use of your limbs.

It sounds tough because it is. And the best of the best will be on display at Big White this winter. These athletes will wow you!

January 13 - 29: Jasper in January, Jasper AB
Yes, we know it’s not even Christmas yet, but right after Christmas comes the classic Jasper in January, and with deals on skiing, accommodations and special events around town.

Dare we say, it’s the most wonderful time of the (new) year? Start planning now for the event locals affectionately know as #JinJ.

February 2 - 13: Vernon Winter Carnival, Vernon BC
Western Canada’s LARGEST winter carnival just got bigger, with the announcement of their feature concert headliner, The Reklaws!

Between raucous shows, check out two-metre plus high snow sculptures at SilverStar (as pictured in the banner above), play winter soccer, enjoy tastings and of course, get out skiing and snowboarding during this fun ten days in Vernon.

Ski fests and winter events are the part of the ski scene that really establish the subculture, it's the colourful, wild, fun part of skiing: the way we come together, around the sport, for fun as a community. Get your cowbell, your neon and your best grooves ready, this winter is for celebrating!
