Originally from Saskatchewan, Tyler has called Calgary home since 2006. As a teacher with the Calgary Board of Education and his passions lie within the outdoor and physical education fields. He is on the Executive Board of the Global, Environmental & Outdoor Education Council (GEOEC), which is a subcommittee of the Alberta Teachers' Association.

Beyond teaching, he is also an accomplished editor and writer, currently as outdoor editor with the Calgary Guardian, for which he writes a regular feature on Wild Jobs. In his words, "I am in charge of reporting everything that makes Calgary’s enormous backyard an adventurer’s dreamland."

In his free time he enjoys numerous outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, paddling, camping, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding, as well as team sports, travelling, photography, spending time with good friends, and spending time with his wife, their boys, and their dog, Rome.
