Your Weekend Ski and Stoke Report

Well blow me down! That was some storm. BC ski areas are going off, with massive dumps hitting the resorts this past week. And of course, BC was generous enough to keep the snow coming into Alberta.

You know it's good when all the webcams look like the image above, taken from Whistler's Seventh Heaven webcam on December 1.

What does that mean for your weekend? Well, here’s your weekend stoke report. Quick and simple, it’s time to go skiing and snowboarding.

Whistler Blackcomb, 30cm/24h

Stormfronts often hit the coast first, which is one of the reasons for Whistler Blackcomb’s legendary pow.

Also, WB has been doing maintenance on the Creekside Gondola of late. Here’s some cool footage of how they wind the cables for the chairlift, for a little insight to what it takes to make a resort operate.

If you see ‘em, thank a lifty, operations, maintenance staff or patrol when you’re skiing this weekend. The pre-season push is real. And about opening days…

Castle Mountain Resort, 30cm/24h

As opening day approaches this Friday Dec 2, Castle is stacking up with 30cm of pow in 24 hours and 63cm this week!

And the T-Bar Pub is hosting a “Toast to Ullr” Friday night to kick things off.

Tasty looking, right? No doubt a great weekend ahead at Castle.

(And yes, dear, I know it’s a long way from Edmonton. I’m not seriously seriously considering it. Just sorta.)

Apex Mountain Resort, 18cm/24h

Also opening this weekend, Dec 2, with 18cm new in 24 and 63cm in 7. This lesser known gem of a mountain could just be the place to be this weekend, with a smaller regional pool to draw from, unlike the Whistlers of the world.

Just look at this.

And with snow like that, you get snow grins like this one, a result of another week spent in the snow globe at SilverStar for our own doctor of pow, @DocPow.
