Nakiska Opening Day 2017 [PHOTOS]

SNOWSEEKERS

Can we call the season officially started now? On Wednesday, Nakiska Ski Resort made the big announcement that they'd be the first ski hill in Canada to open by running the chairs today. Mt Norquay quickly swooped in to claim that title by opening yesterday, but are we really picky? We're just stoked we can go skiing and snowboarding again!

We were so excited, in fact, that we sent one of our Seekers Ambassadors (Tyler), our editor-in-chief (Lisa), and their plus one's (Christine and Doug) to Nakiska this morning so they could scope it out for us.

You can't quite tell from behind the goggles and face mask, but there's an ear-to-ear grin under there.

Nakiska opened their Gold Chair this morning. Upload and download is happening via Olympic Chair to get to the good stuff.

It may be limited terrain, it's still early season after all, but given the options it almost looks like no one's up there! "Roughly 10 runs are open which includes the Monster Glades," reports Tyler. "It's not very crowded at all!"

We asked our adventurers how they would sum up the day in a single word. Christine says "frigid."

Tyler would describe today as "unexpected". He said he was surprised with how early the hill is open and the quality of the snow. Not to mention we surprised him with the tickets so he didn't expect to be riding today at all.

Opening day is never complete without the first noob-move of the season.
