Get ready to score spring skiing and good times with Castle's spring events.

Spring skiing at Castle is going to be the wild west and you’re gonna want to get on this ride! With one of the best snowfall starts in Castle history that saw Castle rocket up the charts early season, replenished by a friendly La Nina system through February, there’s a solid base to last well into spring.

We talked to Cole Fawcett, Castle's sales and marketing manager, to get the lowdown on the spring scene ahead. Upshot? It’s an awesome time to score a Castle spring ski pass, and get your shred on. Castle spring passes allow for unlimited spring skiing during the last four weeks of their season (and are extremely well priced!).

Running weekends from March 18 through the final weekend of the season, Beats in the Base brings thumping bass, big percussion and groovy toons to the hill. Castle turns the outdoor area, outside of the T-Bar Pub, into an outdoor concert venue with a new act every Saturday and Sunday until closing day. Get your sunnies out!

March 18  Fistful of Banked Turns Slalom

Arcing wide turns through swooping berms, this race is a wild time for racers and spectators alike! If you’ve never witnessed or ridden a banked slalom course, it’s like a vertical skatepark, with rounded halfpipes top to bottom that racers drop into at top speed, doing their best to control the G-force as it carries them through the turns!

“Only in its third year, Fistful of Turns has quickly gained traction as one of our guests' favourite events," says Fawcett.

"Even if you don’t participate, our banked slalom is a great spectator event, given that it occurs right under the lower portion of the Sundance (Blue) Chair. As a a skier, I’m even a little jealous of this one, since it's for snowboarders only.”

Mar 25  Tom Tataryn World’s Longest Slalom Race

Hard to beat this for epic! Beginning near the top of Castle’s lift-serviced terrain, this race runs down to the base, a whopping 2750 feet of vertical start to finish.

The race is named after one of Castle's most beloved GMs who sadly, was lost far too soon.

"The Tom Tataryn World’s Longest Slalom is a testament to the grit and determination he put into Castle Mountain Resort," says Fawcett. "It requires competitors to grin and bear more than 2700 vertical feet of slalom gates. Sounds easy right? It isn’t, I can assure you. Just finishing this race is a feat to be proud of.”

Proceeds go to support the Livingstone Ski Academy.

April 8  Slush Cup

Need we say more?! Spring skiing taken to its ultimate expression of wild fun. As one of the first slush cups of the season, this is your chance to fine tune your costume, test your pond-skimming skills and air it out.

Prizes will be awarded for Biggest Splash, Best Form and Best Costume.

Getting splashy is a rite of passage at Castle.

Not up to waterskiing on your downhills? You can watch the action from the bottom of Whiskey Jack run.

“Slush Cup is a spring right of passage," says Fawcett. "Castle Mountain Resort is no exception! It’s always a great way to cap off the season with a few hours of skiing, an hour or so of spectating at slush cup, and then with some live music in the base area. This day has all the vibes!”

Register and get ready for Castle’s Slush Cup with all the details here.

Behind every great ski hill is a great community, and the gang that brings it all together at Castle is just such a community, with events like these providing the glue.

One of Castle’s best perks is that it is the only drive-to, slopeside accommodations in the Alberta Rockies. Grab a spring pass, book in to a condo, cabin or hotel room at the mountain, and at the end of a long day of skiing, snowboarding and cheering on great live music performances and racers, you can drop your gear, hit a hot tub or unwind with some apres bevvies and no driving necessary.

Just kick off your skis and après, wild west Castle style.
