Powder King is a secret worth discovering

POWDER KING, BC — Powder King isn’t an easy destination to get to, but if you’re looking to acquire some legendary times in a place that is on the cusp of reality, British Columbia’s Powder King is your destination. The efforts will be rewarded with some of the best lines you’ll ever shred. 

Keeping it simple

The resort has been running since 1965, but don’t expect a hill that is all splash, because at Powder King, it is all about the snow. The infrastructure is basic, one triple chair and one t-bar. But what more do you need when you’ve got more than 12 m (41 ft.) of snow under your board. 

Onsite are the famous Chateau ATCO accommodation options. A mosh pit of ATCO trailers brought together provide powder hounds with a reprieve from the snow and some solace to recharge the cells for another day in this powder euphoria.

You won’t find over-priced gear shops or trendy boutique cafes at Powder King. What you will find is clean and comfortable accommodations, hearty food to keeping you doing run after run, and a relaxed pub to swap stories at the end of the day. The rental shop is first-rate and there is also a full-service repair and tune-up shop if your equipment needs a little work.

Absolute nirvana

With only 60 beds available, reservations are highly recommended if you want to truly experience Powder King bliss. Once the lifts stop running and the local day-trippers head home, Powder King becomes your own private resort as far away from stress as you can get. And with the limited number of people who can stay on hill, it’s like being a great laid back and relaxed house party – except the ’house’ in this instance is located on the side of a mountain. 

If you find you need more than a comfortable bed and the company of congenial strangers, there are some excellent hotels nearby in the communities of Mackenzie and Chetwynd.
