Enjoying Canmore’s finer things

DOC POW

CANMORE, AB — Canmore is an international community with every style of cuisine you could ever imagine.  Spots like the Troff or Fireweed have long been internationally recognized and are excellent choices. But if you are looking for an authentic Canadian experience, I recommend taking some time and heading into the Cornerstone Dinner Theatre.

Founded in 2002, the dinner theatre allows for a great dinner paired with a show in a building filled with character.

A little bit of Broadway

“Everything in this theatre was built with 100% Canadian product—the wood on the walls is Manitoba barn wood from the heart of the Canadian Prairies,” said Rose Chobaniuk, the Cornerstone’s sales and marketing manager. “Here you get Broadway in the Bow Valley.”

I headed into the theatre with no expectations and was blown away by not just a great dinner, but also an awesome show. Dinner theatre is a different deal and the Cornerstone does it right, big family portions of delicious food paired up with a 90-minute show.

“This spot quenches that thirst for those who love Broadway right in the Rockies,” said Chobaniuk.

In my opinion the Cornerstone is the perfect add on to any snow-filled adventure; enjoy a day of snowshoeing or cross-country skiing and then indulge in a dinner and a show. Chobaniuk, who moved to Canmore back in 1984 thinks that their experience is the perfect complement to your time in a community that is filled with spirit.

Community spirit

“We are a small town with a lot of winter activities, a town of 12,000 where you can find whatever you are after, including mountains and some theatre. Canmore is known for its arts and theatre is art.”

Mostly musicals, the Cornerstone is constantly changing up its offerings. We caught Life Could Be a Dream, a whimsical performance perfect for the entire family or those looking for a little culture and laughter in their evenings.  For more on the Cornerstone Dinner Theatre, visit www.atthecorner.ca.
