Snow trends in Western Canada, Nov 28 - Dec 4

Holy cold smokes, the snow is flying! A storm system blew in from the coast over the last week, bombarding the BC interior mountains starting mid-week and making its way further east across the Rockies over the weekend.

With all the new fresh, we’re seeing a shake up on the leaderboard and the regional prospects for this week, with goods to score all over. You'll want to keep an eye on the conditions report over the next few days, it's getting deeper by the day!

Snowfall leaderboard

BC snow report

BC is blowing up! Massive snowfall across the interior meant powder days everywhere.

Powder King: from whispers to hollers!

Powder King celebrated opening weekend with the snow it’s known for, and lots of it, with 88cm in the last week - nearly a metre! That was enough to claim first place in this week's snow sweepstakes. But it wasn't the only one getting dumped on...

SilverStar Mountain Resort

Seekers’ own Doc Pow found his mountain therapy this weekend with freshies at the ‘Star. Looks pretty deep with 21cm in 48 hours, between Saturday and Monday. (Check out the banner photo above, and the slide show below, for a peek at the conditions on Sunday!)

  • Cowbell day
Doc Pow and friends ring the bell for a powder day!
  • SilverStar Glades
Skiing the glades at the 'Star served up fresh pockets of pow.
  • Cowbell down!
This cowbell got buried deep when the Doc popped over to Sovereign Lake for the LIVE contest announcement.

New resort openings in BC this week

With several mountains already open, it's domino time in BC. Watch the ripple effect of resort openings in the next two weeks.

Apex Mountain Resort, Dec 2

Apex got 30cm over 24 from Sunday to Monday! In addition to a 90cm dump in November, this has helped the resort move up opening to December 2, a week earlier than originally anticipated.

Alberta Snow Report

With the exception of one, Alberta's mountain resorts are open now and the conditions are getting better by the day! And by this weekend, all of them will be open!

Castle Mountain Resort, opening Dec 2

Castle opened for a surprise “sneak peek” weekend, Nov 26-27, and starts full operations this coming weekend on Dec 2. Stoke will be high, and you can celebrate the season to come with a “Toast to Ullr” in the T-bar pub on Friday night.

Here’s what it looked like last weekend!

New terrain openings at Alberta ski resorts

With more snowfall through the past week, Alberta resorts have been quickly opening new terrain.

Marmot Basin opens Tres Hombres

Tres Hombres is now open! From first hand experience, I can tell you it takes a lot of work each season to set up the ski-out trail leading back from Tres onto the main resort area. Thank a patroller if you see one!

Sunshine Village opens Mt. Standish Express chair

November 27, Sunshine announced Standish opening! With its southeast-facing aspect, Standish enjoys good sun and sometimes gets pocketed from northerly winds, making it a great place to seek for hidden stashes.

Lake Louise opens three new backside runs

The World Cup continues this week at the Lake, be sure to bring your cowbell! With the opening of Ptarmigan chair, The Lake has opened up three more runs on the backside, so if you want to get away from the World Cup crowds for a bit you can hang back there.

It's that time of year where things can change quickly! Keep one eye on the sky, and the other on our opening dates and we'll keep you posted as our season continues to develop. Now get out there and shred!
