Kamloops, B.C. – At 7:00 am my alarm goes off, I hop out of bed, and peer out my hotel room window. It's grey and socked in. A thick layer of valley fog has settled down over Kamloops. No good can come from this, I think. Nevertheless, I ready myself for my Nordic ski adventure and hit the road to the Overlander Ski Club at the Stake Lake Nordic Ski Area, which is located approximately 25 kilometers south of Kamloops on Lac le Jeune Road.

Golden, BC – It was a chilly start to the 2018 opening day at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, but the flow of hot chocolate and the adrenaline had the crowd, who were gathering in the pre-dawn light, stoked.

Golden, B.C. – As the rest of the patrons at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort drove the dark road back to Golden or tucked into their slope-side accommodations, I waited at the base of the gondola for my ride. I could hear it and see the beaming headlights long before I saw it crawl like a bug over the lip of the last pitch and slowly grind down the slope.

Carve into champagne powder at one of Kamloops ski resorts or cross country ski by the light of the moon. Peddle your bike through some incredible trails, venture by snowshoe to parts unexplored or strap on your ice skates for a friendly game of hockey on a outdoor rink.

The Okanagan’s other mega winter resort - Vernons’ SilverStar - is celebrating its 60th birthday this year and Ullr has been generous with the gift giving. The area hasn’t seen so much snow in 68 years. Here’s a look at the results of all those snow dances.

There is something special about sharing deep untouched snow with your closest friends. It really doesn’t matter where you are from, how far you have travelled, or how experienced you are. When you take that first plunge into blower snow, and your heart skips a beat, we all end up with the same big smiles on our faces.

At the top of the bunny hill, my daughter Avery cajoles her reluctant little brother Bennett into sitting on a Snow Boogie sled. A minute later the kids are flying down the hill, laughing and screaming and leaving a trail of frosty crystals behind them like the contrail from a jet engine. After the icy rush, we all warm up with cups of hot chocolate sipped around an open fire at the base of Baldy Mountain Resort.

The story of skiing at Red Mountain Resort in the Kootenays of southeast British Columbia, is written in stone.

British Columbia’s second-largest ski resort, Sun Peaks Resort, demands days of exploration to appreciate it fully. Or you can explore it for one long day, thanks to a pair of unique offerings at the resort, skiers can schuss from sunup to sundown — and beyond.

The sun still had another 90 minutes before it would light up the base area and the first ride on the gondola was still two hours away – but that didn’t deter the crowds from gathering. As old and new friends gathered in the dark at 7 a.m., the music and single light from the lift shack created a party mood. After all, there was reason to celebrate, it was the count down to the first run of the bonus weekend at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
