Morning – Get your morning caffeine fix at MadHatter Roastery

Start your day with a caffeine boost to prepare for an exciting day of winter sight-seeing. Whether you prefer a good, strong Americano, a mellow matcha latte or a rich hot chocolate, MadHatter Roastery is the perfect way to kickstart your day.

Mid-Morning – Before heading to the back-country tomorrow, make sure you have everything you’ll need.

Play in town today and explore the unique attractions of the city. The historic downtown is filling up with art stores, coffee shops and breweries, while Historic Clay District is home to Medalta. Learn more about those attractions here.

Before you go to Elkwater and Cypress Hills for the day (and maybe the night), swing by Valhalla Pure Outfitters to grab a second pair of mitts or maybe a better hat? If you plan to overnight in the huts, this is the place to stock up.

Evening – Enjoy a craft beer at Medicine Hat’s newest brewery

There’s nothing like finishing the day with your friends and a beer in a really cool brick building. Stop in at Medicine Hat’s latest craft offering – the Travois Ale Works. Travois is quickly making a name for itself. Bring your growlers and yes, your furry growlers (as long as they don’t bite) and taste the latest in the brew lineup.

Morning Day Two – Rise and shine, it’s outdoor adventure day

Quickly grab that breakfast and head for Elkwater in Cypress Hills Provincial Park to experience all the activities, from downhill skiing at Hidden Valley Ski Resort to skating, to fat-tire biking to back-country cross-country treks. Check out the ideas we have put together for your day here. Rentals for much of the activities are available that the Visitors Centre.

Overnight in the back-country

Southern Alberta’s Cypress Hills offers the unique experience of skiing hut-to-hut. Pack the camping gear, the cross-country skis and your food to experience trekking from hut to hut. There are three cabins to link to by skis. Learn about the huts here.
