It was a solid return to the slopes over the weekend at Whistler for opening weekend. Over 25% more snow then this time last year with lots more on the way!

Day one on the slopes for the year, what does that mean to you? For me it's like the return of an old friend who I haven't seen in six months. That old friend comes with some serious benefits. Last week I had the opportunity to get back out on the slopes for day two of Whistler's season. I was there as part of a new project we were working in with the Canadian FreeStyle Ski team training the athletes and their coaches on how to be better digital story tellers. While there my pals @photojbartlett and I took our phones out on the slopes to grab you a look at Whistler's opening weekend.
Some incredible early season turns!

We can't wait for more days like this!
For Bernie Protsch who’s been with Whistler Blackcomb for 30 years and heads up ski patrol - the return of winter means work. For his team of 110 full time ski patrollers, October thru November is time to open up the mountain to welcome all of us ski and snowboard fans who get to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

Bernie has some words of caution for us all though. “A big challenge for people to be aware of is the need to stay in bounds or if your heading out of bounds then to do it with caution, tell someone you are heading and always ski/board with a buddy. It’s still early season and even through we’ve seen a great start to the season with more snow then last year, there are natural hazards out there.”
Pumped that Whistler Blackcomb is open for the season? Share this story with friends and head out to the slopes!
