SUN PEAKS, BC — WestJet Airlines has expanded its service to Kamloops and Sun Peaks with an Edmonton flight connection.
WestJet flies the Kamloops-Edmonton run three days a week – Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The flight departs Edmonton at 4:30 p.m. and arrives in Kamloops at 4:40 p.m. The flight back to Edmonton leaves Kamloops at 5:15 p.m.
“Things are getting better and better … great snow, the Olympics, and now new flights. It’s like Christmas!” says Christopher Nicolson, president of Tourism Sun Peaks. “There is a traditional linkage between Sun Peaks and Edmonton, and in years past, Tod Mountain hosted thousands of Edmonton skiers. This connection with a wide-bodied jet aircraft immediately opens up significant new opportunities for golf and ski in the region.”
WestJet began direct service between Vancouver and Kamloops last November after the airline’s success with the Calgary-Kamloops connection, which began in 2008.
Sun Peaks Resort is a four season destination resort located in the interior of British Columbia near Kamloops. Recently declared the 2nd Best Ski Resort in Canada and 10th Best in North America by Condé Nast Traveller Magazine readers, Sun Peaks has three mountains which surround an intimate ski-in, ski-out village. In other seasons, Sun Peaks offers a diverse range of leisure activities including 18 holes of golf as well as numerous events and festivals.
Sun Peaks Resort was the first ski resort in North America and is the only resort in Canada to receive the ISO 14001 designation recognizing the resorts environmental policies and practices. Sun Peaks can be accessed by two airport gateways – Kamloops (45 minutes) and Kelowna (2 1/2 hours) and by car, only a four and a half hour drive separates Sun Peaks and Vancouver, B.C.
