KAMLOOPS - Go big or go home.  I always try to keep that tried and tested mantra in mind when choosing which ski resorts to visit in B.C. Whistler, Revelstoke, Kicking Horse and then Whistler again. Around and around we go. Yet here I was living just a four-hour drive away from the second largest ski area in British Columbia and didn’t even realize it.

There will be a variety of new terrain for every ability

Wait just a perfect powder minute. Make that second largest in Canada, as of now.

I’m talking about Sun Peaks Resort, which has recently grown to a whopping 4,270 acres of in-bound ski terrain with the addition of two new areas for the 2014–15 winter. Good enough for second place behind sprawling Whistler-Blackcomb, which still holds down the No. 1 spot in North America.

By opening more than 500 acres of new, challenging terrain laid out in the resort’s longstanding Master Development Plan, Sun Peaks is adding to the variety of skiing available for guests while solidifying the ski experience there as one of the top in North America. And with a village surrounded by three mountains, it’s incredibly easy to sample a huge variety of the resort's legendary light, dry, 'easy-to-ski' powder on everything from long, lazy cruisers to deep steeps.

New runs in the West Morrisey area will be expert ability level

Sun Peaks, you definitely have my attention now.

New runs in the West Morrisey area will be expert ability level and use the same aspect as the popular Static Cling and Agitator ski runs. The second section, Gil’s — a popular backcountry ski area near the top of Tod Mountain — will see that area’s vertical double with the creation of a lower ski out back to the main ski runs and the launch of a new snow safety program.

This season, Sun Peaks, I am finally coming to meet you face to face.  It’s going to be huge pleasure.
