Kimberley's Bavarian-style community is a delight

KIMBERLEY, BC — If you are in need of a break from skiing or snowboarding, Kimberley offers a number of other outdoor activities including cross-country skiing, dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, helicoptor tours – even a chance to sleep in an igloo. 

After spending time on the hill, the snowshoe tours offer a sense of tranquility. It’s incredibly scenic and the knowledgeable guides don’t ramble on and on, but offer a real insight into the historical Northstar mountain. There are two options: an afternoon tour or an evening tour that includes a chocolate fondue in the mountain-top Kootenay Haus.

Head for downtown

Don’t worry, you won’t be asked to head downhill on your snowshoes – it’s a easy ride down in the chairlift. If you have never been snowshoeing, the evening tour is an excellent and fun way to learn.

Want to really get off the hill? Spend the day in Kimberley – shuttle service is available if you are not in the mood to drive – which is located at the base of the mountain, so it’s not a great stretch to spend a few hours in town. 

Old-world style

The Town of Kimberley has a slight European feel and is known as the Bavarian City of the Rockies. Head to the Platzl, which is closed to vehicles, and spend some time shopping or enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the many restaurants.
