FERNIE, BC — British Columbia's Fernie Alpine Resort has been hit with the white stuff almost daily –a whopping total of 55 centimetres of fresh snow in the last seven days. Whether it's the Griz or Mother Nature, the new snow is setting the resort up perfectly for some great spring skiing while enjoying the last few weekends of amazing events.

Get your pedal on

On Apr. 10, the resort hosts one of the most popular local events in the region, the Raging Elk Powder, Pedal, Paddle (PPP) Relay. The PPP has been going strong since 1984.

Teams (a maximum of five people) ski, bike, paddle and run in a fun (yet competitive) relay race. Followed by a great dinner for all competitors and an after party for competitors 19+. Visit www.skifernie.com for more details. Call Guest Services to register, 250-423-2442.

Regular season ends Apr. 11, but not the fun. The Fernival & Bonus Weekend takes place Apr. 17 and 18. This is the second year for this event and with the fresh snows, it might just be a repeat of last year's successful inaugural event where the slopes were in such great condition, skiers and riders were pulled between spending the day on the snow or participating in the many hilarious events in the village.

Epic final weekend

A celebration of snow and a tribute to a fantastic ski/ride season, Fernival is combined with Edmonton, Alberta-based Downhill Riders Ski & Snowboard Tour Co.'s year-end bash, the 25th annual Sunpit Safari.

Many DHR clients – both longstanding and new – will be joining Fernie locals to enjoy the amazing musical talents of Ashley MacIsaac in the Cape Breton Traditional Duo during this final celebration and weekend of the ski season.

DJs and all kinds of wacky, innovative and fun events for skiers and snowboarders of all ages are on the agenda. The events include a Winter Gear Swap, Best Sasquatch Mating Call, Snow Volleyball and more.

Come out and celebrate the last party of the season. Get the day started with Sweet Potato in the Beer Gardens then finish it off with the fiddling sensation featured at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Closing Cermonies, Ashley MacIssac.

Both Fernie Alpine Resort and Downhill Riders are offering some great package deals for this weekend, so make sure to visit the respective websites for more information. www.skifernie.com or www.downhillriders.com
