COMOX-COURTENAY, BC — Mount Washington Alpine Resort’s a full service resort with not only a tonne of character spots to get a great night’s rest but also something cooking every hour when it comes time for chow.
One of the best places and a fav with the locals is Fat Teddy’s, a stellar place for pub food with an outstanding deck overlooking the resort’s signature views. Where else are you going to find Mai Tais on special, served from a bar that has a surf board hanging from the rafters – at a ski resort?
These are pieces of the island vibe that will keep you coming back for more. I would suggest chowing down on Teddy’s signature burritos or feasting on the fresh salmon plate dinner.
This is the spot when it comes time for nightlife too. Most weekends you’ll find a band on stage and a room that is rocking.
Over at the Raven’s Lodge in the Nordic area, folks line up to get in on some of the fine fixings that include a healthy portion of adventure.
“Our snowshoe fondue programs through the winter are really popular,” said Marc Lyster, manager of the Nordic program.
Offered up every Friday and Saturday through the season starting at 5 p.m., folks get in a big snowshoe with a guide to work up the appetite and then head into the impressive Raven for a three course fondue dinner.

From fondue to sushi – over at Sushi Mon, they will have you rolling for dinner. It’s right at the bottom of the Hawk 6pack chair lift and from Wednesday through Sunday, the staff serve up delicious chicken rice bowls and a stellar assortment of sushi.
Now for those of us who are looking for something that could be Canadian, at least if you go by the name, stop by Beaver Tails, a great little pastry shop. I might be stretching it a bit because Wikipedia defines Beaver Tails as fried dough but everyone knows that beavers are truly an iconic symbol of Canada.
And if that didn’t get your Canadian fix in, then hit up the Maple Syrup Shack next store. The staff will get you set up with something sweet and guaranteed, you can skip the Starbucks—your fuel reserves will be charged for the rest of the day.
