CALGARY, AB – A massive dump of snow from Mother Nature means the Angel chair and Mt. Standish high-speed quad opened at Sunshine Village this past week.

With a settled snow pack of more than 100 centimetres, the time is right to bring these major lifts on-stream, said John Scurfield, Senior Vice-president Resort operations, Marketing and Sales. "We’re getting very close to being wide open."

The Sunshine experience

The openings means seven lifts are now in operation: six quad chairs, the high-speed, eight-passenger gondola and two magic carpets. More lift openings are expected to be announced in the next few days.

"We have Canada’s best snow, and visitors to Sunshine are going to see a lot of it. This is what the Sunshine experience is all about."

Mountain Manager Al Matheson, who oversees safety and ski patrol, notes that, even with the abundance of snow falling in November, early season conditions still exist. Skiers and riders are advised to be on the lookout for unmarked natural hazards.

La Niña on its way

But weather forecasters say the enduring La Niña effect will deliver yet another season of relentless, deep powder to Sunshine Village. Some experts predict this season will bring the same cold temperatures and, more importantly, lots of the white stuff to the ski and snowboard resort in Banff National Park.
