What's new in 2010/11 at Marmot Basin

JASPER, AB – For a ski resort to get a new lift is one thing, but three new lifts in three years is something else. Marmot Basin is going big time with its recent announcement of two new chairlifts that will operational for the 2011/12 season.  Big news, especially when you consider Marmot saw the addition of its Canadian Rockies Express Chairlift this time last year.

This news is going to help snow seekers get more out of the day, and for those who are learning, life is going to get a whole lot easier. “Learning on a t-bar is not easy,” explained Dave Gibson President of Marmot Basin.  

As of next summer Marmot will be taking out that the School House T-bar to replace it with a triple chair making a huge difference for those who are new to the snow.

Major Facelifts for Paradise and Eagle Chalets - New for 2010/11

Located at mid-mountain, the Paradise and Eagle Chalets have undergone externsive renovations during the summer of 2010. Exteriors of both buildings have been painted, new carpet installed, and there have been numerous other touch-ups and improvements throughout the facitlities.

The Eagle Chalet features a cozy dining room, a fireplace and a lounge, and the Paradise Chalet includes a cafeteria, Charlie’s Lounge and bag lunch area. There are also several outdoor sundecks and BBQ’S making this a favorite location for locals and visitors alike.

Online Reservation System - New for 2010/11

For the 2010/11 season, Marmot Basin has installed a new online reservation system developed by Resort Technology Partners (RTP). Ski and snowboard lessons, rental equipment and lift tickets can all be reserved and purchased on-line. Everything will be ready and waiting for skiers and boarders to pick up at Marmot Basin.

Expanded Snowmaking and Snow Retention - New for 2010/11

Marmot Basin opens annually in mid-November thanks to our state-of-the-art snowmaking system and abundant natural snowfall. Marmot has once again increased it’s snowmaking capacity with the installation of a second water pump. An additional 2,000 feet of permanent snow fence has also been erected on the face of Eagle Ridge and the “Triple Face” which will result in better snow retention.

Marmot Basin has the highest base elevation of all ski areas in Canada. This means that the ski area gets snowfall early in the season that stays right through until May. Marmot Basin has one of the longest and most reliable snow seasons in Canada.

New Features Added to the Rogers Terrain Park - New for 2010/11

Last season a completely new and much expanded terrain park was located on “Liftline” in the lower portion of the mountain. The Rogers Terrain Park has a number of features for both advanced skiers and snowboarders and for those just starting out. This season a new wall ride will be added to the Park and increased snowmaking will improve existing features even further.

New High Speed Quad Chair and Triple Chair - Coming in 2011/12

Marmot Basin is installing another two new ski lifts in the summer of 2011 that will commence operation on opening day of the 2011-12 season.

NEW PARADISE EXPRESS HIGH SPEED QUAD CHAIR IN THE UPPER AREA

A new Leitner Poma high speed quad chair will be installed in the summer of 2011. The PARADISE EXPRESS will service the upper area of the mountain, is 4,604 ft (1,403m) in length, has a vertical drop of 1,331 ft (406m) with a ride time of only 4.6 minutes. The base of the new lift orginates in the lower area at the intersection of “Old Road” and “Roll Out” and the top is located at the existing location of the Paradise triple chair.

NEW TRIPLE CHAIR IN LOWER AREA

For 2011-12, the Paradise triple chairlift, currently located in the upper mountain, will be refurbished and installed in the lower area of the mountain at the current location of the School House T-Bar. This lift will be a tremendous improvement to the learning area. It services Marmot’s best novice terrain and is ideal for those learning how to ski or snowboard for the first time.
