CALGARY, AB – The Lake Louise Ski Area will once again be one of the first ski areas to open in North America. November 5 will kick off the season and forecasters are expecting La Nina to once again this year bring more of those glorious powder days from last winter.

Those anxious to get on the slopes can enjoy two routes down from the Glacier Express chairlift on Saturday, Nov. 5 there will be a small rail park on Easy Street and Sunny T-bar will also be open. Expect more terrain to open up in subsequent days and weeks.

“With some help from Mother Nature in terms of natural snow fall, as well as cooler temperatures, we’ve been able to work diligently making snow,” says  Lake Louise Ski Area President Charlie Locke. “We know skiers and snowboarders are itching to get on the mountain and we’re keen to accommodate and proud to consistently offer one of the longest ski seasons anywhere.”

What to expect from Lake Louise this season

Lake Louise's impressive back bowls, its extensive upper mountain, and the groomed cruising runs in the Larch area offer more runs than most skiers can cover in a week. To complement, new upgrades this year to what was already one of the largest, most sophisticated grooming and snowmaking systems in the world, will help ensure supreme conditions from November to May.

New this year, too, is a bigger, better terrain park, snow cross course, and even more reasons to visit, beginning with the World Cup Winter Start November 26-December 4, to Canadian Powder 8s, Big Mountain Challenges, Ski Cross and Snowboard Nationals, and culminating with an exciting line-up of spring music sessions and events.

Savings extend to The Lake Louise Ski Area of course, from the ski school, to the sports boutique, to the rental and repair shops and restaurants.

Enhanced ski school programs and rentals options are also new at Lake Louise this year, as is the Challenge Max tuning machine, the only of its kind between Whistler and Ontario. It delivers perfect tunes with computerized precision on every type of ski and snowboard, in less time than it takes for a short coffee break!

More of what's new this season

Hosted by the popular Ski Friends are new free Heritage Tours for those who want a tour around Lake Louise’s impressive four mountain faces while learning about the area’s unique and rich history and ecosystems. New Winter Gondola Sightseeing and Snowshoe Adventure Tours, meanwhile, are an excellent option for those who don’t ski or snowboard; participants ride the Grizzly Express Gondola to the top of Whitehorn Mountain to enjoy the views that consistently inspire ski magazines to rate Lake Louise as the most scenic ski area in the world.

Most exciting is the Trans-Canada Highway twinning is now fully complete! Commuters have always appreciated the short access road to the ski area and the convenient parking just off the full-service Base Lodges and mere steps to the lifts. Now it’s possible to be on the peaks that much sooner at Lake Louise!
