This is the go-to spot when Castle receives one of its ridiculous 24 hour snowfall accumulations. It’s protected, so the snow piles up high, and the lower portion offers the required steepness to maintain a solid pace when you have 80 centimeters of snow trying to slow you down, smash you in the face and prevent regular interval breaths.
Small trees, alders and the occasional log dot the lower area, meaning it’s generally a better option later in the season as the base begins to build (or if you happen to have intimate local knowledge of the obstacles locations).
